GM Oliver G. Mag-uyon is a Civil Engineer by profession, currently residing in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He started his Arnis/Eskrima career at age 9, in 1971, under the supervision of the late GM Teofilo Velez, the late GM Pachito Velez, the late GM Eduardo Velez, and GM Ramon Franco “Monie” Velez. His first instructor was GM Bobby Taboada, who taught him the 12 basic strikes, power strikes, basic defense and offense, and the basic 5 groupings. He also trained in Combat Judo and Knife Fighting defense, checked by the Velez brothers from time to time.
