About Balintawak Canada
Balintawak Eskrima was founded by Venancio “Anciong” Bacon in Cebu as a close-quarter, single-stick Filipino martial art. Its teaching was later organized into structured groupings by Teofilo Velez and Jose Villasin, helping generations of students learn the system progressively.
Balintawak Canada follows the Velez–WOTBAG tradition, shaped through instruction from Eddie Velez, Monie Velez, Oliver Mag-uyon, Kirt Velez, Master Chester, and other senior teachers. At its heart, Balintawak values simplicity, timing, distance, sensitivity, adaptability, and decisive counter-offense.
We preserve Balintawak not only as a martial system, but as a living Cebuano cultural heritage.
“Atoa ni — higugmaon nato kini.” This is ours. Let us love it, protect it, and pass it on.
