ABOUT BALINTAWAK CANADA

Founded by Supreme Grandmaster Venancio Bacon, Balintawak is a Cebuano Filipino Martial Art system that was a single stick close quarter combat martial art with simplicity and minimalism as its core philosophy.

The Teovel’s (WOTBAG) Legacy Method of Teaching

The training is sequenced in four fundamentals: 1.) Training the Eyes. 2.) Reactions to reflexes and muscle memory, 3.) Involving All Our Senses, 4.) No Mind Fluidity. The Five Grouping System was arranged by Grandmasters Atty. Villasin and Teofilo Velez to develop, by module, an organized, dynamic method of teaching. Because Balintawak is a defense-oriented art, we presume that our opponents are skilled and powerful. Therefore, from basic setup to special skills to variations, the core method of teaching is meant to achieve a swift, quick, and straight forward to the point result. Like playing chess, our arnis training system, which is basically based on WOTBAG (World Original Teofilo Velez Balintawak Arnis Group) system emphasizes on: The Mastery of the 12 Basic Strikes (7 Hits and 5 Thrusts) and strive for accuracy to their respective Target Zones. Because it is a systematic martial art, the "Forms" are so integral to its discipline. Different forms are strategic placement and maneuvering of the stick in rythym with the body movements. When the basics are well placed, its easier to achieve speed, accuracy, timing and minimal skilled execution. These are some of distinguishing features of this art that enticed so many from different cultures and walks of life.

Change Will Remain Constant

To all those who inspired me to teach, I am forever grateful and pay homage to them. Without their counsel, I would never be able to take a leap of faith and be assured that I could do it.
